2014 and The Wedding Industry Awards

14.01.2015

What a year 2014 was!

I got to work with lots of wonderful people on some really fun and interesting projects.

In the first half of the year I was in the midst of helping Annie learn to shoot once she had found her gun in Ian Talbots brilliant UK Tour of Irving Berlin’s classic musical. At the end of the year I was weaving some magic into Philip Pullman’s Grimm Tales in the truly magical setting of the OXO Bargehouse on London’s Southbank, and helping a ghost to make his presence known in The House That Will Not Stand at the Tricycle Theatre.

In 2014 I was honoured to perform at a lot of brilliant events, one of which was for Skype. I was asked to perform in Microsofts XBox studios in London, via Skype, for delegates at the Edinburgh International Television Festival! Interactive magic over 400 miles! What an experience.

I was also privileged to be asked to perform at a lot of wonderful Weddings.

I love Weddings for many reasons. I wrote a post earlier this year about Weddings and in particular, why Magic is a great thing to include on your big day. That post is here.

Last year I started partaking in a worldwide conversation on Twitter known as #WeddingHour. Every wednesday, suppliers from all over meet to discuss and promote all things relating to the Wedding industry. It was here that I heard about The Wedding Industry Awards.

These awards are particularly special because the suppliers nominated are voted for by the Brides and Grooms who hired them for their weddings.

I was honoured that all of the lovely Couples I was hired by voted for me and left comments because In November I was shortlisted for an award in the Best Entertainment category!

At the beginning of December, my fiance and I put our glad rags on and headed to the stunning surroundings of Farnham Castle for the London & South East Wedding Industry Awards. It was a great night of mingling with fellow suppliers who were all waiting to find out if they had won in their categories.

During the awards ceremony I was sat next to Luke and Jodie from Glow Love Lights (www.glowlovelights.com) who make and supply stunning, light-up giant Letters which look incredible!

The awards were under way and the next to be announced was for ‘Best Special Touch’ which included all of the fine details that make a wedding extra special. Much cheering followed as Glow Love Lights were announced as the, deserving, winners.

Then came various awards within the entertainment category. Having no musical talent, the category I had been nominated into was ‘Best Entertainment (non-musical)’. Talented winners in the solo, DJ and Band categories were announced and my category was next.

Nerves turned into excitement as my name was announced and I headed to the stage to collect my award! What a great feeling to not only win, but to win knowing that it was thanks to the couples I had worked for during the last year. It really was the icing on an already brilliant year.

As a regional winner I have been entered into the National Wedding Industry Awards where I am now pitched against my fellow regional winners in the Best Entertainment (non-musical) category. It is a tough category, filled with a lot of talent!

The National Finals are to be held at Cafe De Paris in London! In the meantime, I am very excited to be working on a couple of incredible projects – more about those in another post soon – and gearing for another busy year!

To all of the Brides who voted for me in the 2015 Wedding Industry Awards, I cannot thank you enough, and to all of the couples whose weddings I will be performing at in 2015; I can’t wait!
